Children’s Eyecare

The Importance Of Children’s Eye Care

Children experience the world primarily through their eyes – at home, at school, in sport, and in play. Keeping their vision in great shape from an early age is one of the most important things you can do for their overall wellbeing and development.

Starting Early

We welcome children for eye examinations from the age of 3. Many parents are surprised to learn just how young children can – and should – be tested. The earlier we establish a clear picture of your child’s visual health, the better placed we are to spot and address any issues before they begin to affect their daily life. Each examination takes around 30 minutes and is carried out in a relaxed, reassuring way that keeps even the youngest patients at ease.

Children are remarkably good at adapting to poor vision without ever realising something isn’t quite right – which is why they may not mention any difficulties. This is especially true if vision problems are present from a young age. Parents and teachers are often the first to pick up on the clues: holding books or screens unusually close, covering or rubbing one eye, losing their place while reading, or seeming to avoid activities that require sharp distance vision. A tired or irritable child after school, or one who complains of frequent headaches, can sometimes simply be a child whose eyes are under strain.

If any of this sounds familiar, it’s worth booking an examination sooner rather than waiting for the next routine check-up.
