Our Eye Examinations
There’s far more to an eye examination than reading letters from a chart. Gray and Bull is one of the oldest opticians in the world.
Â
We’ve been caring for patients’ eyes for generations – combining time-honoured expertise with the very latest clinical technology.
More Than A Prescription Check
We recommend a full eye examination every 2 years for most adults, though some patients may benefit from more frequent visits. Sight can shift gradually in ways that are easy to miss in everyday life, and many serious eye conditions give little or no warning before they begin to cause damage.
Â
A thorough examination gives us the opportunity to assess your prescription and your eye health together – catching any concerns at the earliest possible stage.
Â
What happens during your examination.
Â
Your appointment will last around 45 minutes; long enough to carry out a comprehensive assessment without feeling hurried. As well as checking your prescription and the overall health of your eyes, we use a suite of specialist clinical equipment as standard:
Â
- Pulsair intellPuff – a gentle, non-contact tonometer that measures the pressure inside the eye, aiding in glaucoma screening
- Zeiss Humphrey Field Analyzer – the same technology used in hospital settings, mapping both your central and peripheral vision to detect subtle blind spots that can indicate glaucoma, optic nerve issues, or neurological conditions
- Slit-lamp biomicroscope – enabling a detailed examination of the structures at both the front and back of the eye
Why Gray And Bull?
As the second oldest optician operating in the UK, our heritage speaks for itself. And it’s matched by a thoroughly modern approach to patient care.
Every appointment is shaped around the individual, with personalised recommendations rather than generic solutions. We also hold the widest selection of handmade eyewear in Nottingham, so finding frames you’ll love is part of the experience.
